Need to buy pro to make it work

obnoxious. just charge for the app, rather than making me download it and then find out i have to buy the upgrade.

Howls as advertised

Simple, straight-forward timer app that really howls!

mc4ndr3 · 11 years ago

Meh

The howing sound is very noisy. Many of the other sounds are ripped off from Windows (expect a lawsuit in the future). Nice idea to have multiple simultaneous timers. The “other” stuff the app does like converters, etc is just a waste of code. Could be better.

Does what it says, I use it mostly for not being on social media for too long. For example Ill set it for 5 minutes and title it "Get off Facebook". Simple, effective timer. I have not upgraded, the basic is fine for me. Nice app!

It doesn’t have all the bells and whistles (just the howl). As someone else reviewed, finding a decent Countdown Timer is harder than you’d think. Perfect for working through your tasks, or having a timer to let you know that your still alive. Thanks.

Great app! Functions excellent as a timer Very basic interface could use more intuition or customization. I bought the upgrade ($2) after owning the app for some time.

I have other things to do rather than sit here watching the timer count down, but if I cover it with another program, at some point it resets and stops running. Not very helpful.

One thing I miss about my PC is the paid version of TimeLeft (I actually have multiple licenses). I wanted a similar program for the Mac and was surprised to find this one - free no less. I almost passed this up because of the name, thinking it gimmicky. But no, this is a solid little program that lets you countdown (to a set number of hours/minutes/seconds or to a specific time). You can run multiple timers. And you can pick a sound effect beyond the wolf howl or crow caw (any Mac sound or any sound you’ve loaded yourself). While I normally use Bartender to hide all of my menubar icons, this one has earned a spot on the menu bar - when you click it, a small drop down shows you all the timers and how long each has left. Disclaimer: I have only just downloaded it and started up three timers, none of which have elapsed yet. However, I’m already really impressed.

Nice design

I just love how nice it looks. I love the icon design: the wolf with the clock as the full moon in the background. Very cool. And it’s a nice app.

I use this timer every day in my classroom! I project it on the tv through the apple tv, and it helps the kids keep track of time when they work in groups or individually. The only thing I would add would be a greater variety of sounds that are loud and long like the wolf howl.

This is a review of the app, per se, as I was never able to get the app to launch. It downloads from the Mac App Store just fine, then on opening reports: “Howler Timer.app” is damaged and can’t be opened. Delete “Howler Timer.app” and download it again from the App Store. MBP 15” (2015) running Yosemite 10.10.4.

Amazing that it’s so hard to find a good-quality timer. Most of them have unnecessarily elaborate or ugly interfaces that get in your way; this one, while not beautiful, is unobtrusive. I like the ability to save presets and quickly launch them from the menu. The wolf sounds are corny but add a bit of fun to mundane tasks.

Thanks for a simple app to time things... I dont have to worry about my iPhone screen going black all the time... its so much easier to just use my Mac. =)
